Svetlana Molodchenko
Svetlana Molodchenko is an artist, illustrator, calligrapher. She has many talents. She currently lives and works in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia. She was born in a small town in Belarus, educated in Moscow and spent most of her “adult” life in Russia. Due to the recent political unrest, she forcibly moved with her family to Armenia.
She enjoys exploring nature with her children, showing and teaching them the intricate beauty of the living world and the infinite complexity of our environment.
WHAT IS YOUR SOURCE OF INSPIRATION?
Illuminated manuscripts, medieval ornaments, marginalia, alchemy, bestiaries, botanical atlases, heraldic symbols and coats of arms, engravings along with medieval and Renaissance artists, Joris Hoefnagel, William Morris and Hermann Zapf, influenced and motivated me to work.
WHAT'S THE MOST INCREDIBLE GIFT YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED?
My son. He is already an adult, but he never ceases to amaze me.
DO YOU WORK AT NIGHT OR DURING THE DAY?
I prefer to work during the day, but sometimes I stay late at my desk.
WHO IS THE ARTIST YOU CRAVE FOR?
YOUR FAVORITE MUSEUM, YOUR FAVORITE DRINK?
Museum Matenadaran in Yerevan. This fantastic place is a collection of ancient manuscripts. It was my dream to get here for many years, and now we live nearby and I can go there at any time.
